world on fire.

please check this out. courtesy of Marie and Nick's blog.

hearts are worn in these dark ages
you're not alone in this story's pages
the night has fallen amongst the living and the dying
hearts break
hearts mend
love still hurts
visions clash
planes crash
still there's talk of
saving souls
still the cold's
closing in on us

a beautiful voice. meaningful words.
a simple video.
images. figures.

but they mean so much. at least for people like us who are born above the poverty line. who never realised how your pair of Nikes can actually pay for 5000lbs of potato seeds for planting vegetable gardens. which means food for those starving people. and how that pair of Nikes and perhaps your adidas trainers which is collecting dust in some corner of your shoe rack can pay for education for 200 students in Ethiopia or the training 10 teachers in Afghanistan. an opportunity to education means a greater promise of moving past that line.

it's not as if nothing's been done. but the disparity just seems to be growing. maybe someday, the poverty line will disapper altogether. and we will not be separated by any thing of that sort. someday.

i feel for them.
