contradictions.
GP today was not as bad as i thought it would be. the timed practice was a killer, but i didn't put in much effort for it anyway. what really made the session enjoyable was the words one of the teacher said. i can't remember her name though, but she's just the older one lecturing in LT4. she was going through the comprehension passage and as usual, the students, including me, were scurrying to pen down whatever that was flashed on the screen. she saw that and she said how it wasn't important to write down all the answers. well, being the kiasu students that we all are, we of course were not convinced. she then went on to say "it's not the answers that matter; it's the techniques that you all learn".
ain't it true? we learn many things, but ultmately are the results that really matters? no. it's what we acquire through the process of learning that really matters. it's the process that matters. if i can memorise chunks of information and regurgitate them on a test and score extremely well for it but i can't understand all that i've memorised, isn't that learning a failure? so, it's really the process, not the results.
but, being the contradictory world that this is, the MOE seems to think otherwise. the over-demanding education system works just the opposite way. they seem to think more highly of results than of the process. you fail your promos and you get retained. you fail your exams and you get labelled as students as the bottom of the list.
are results really that important? in the world today, yes. you can't seem to be able to go far without good grades. so unfortunately for us, the competition is still on. it's still the survival of the fittest. do well for your exams and you'll have a long way to go. do badly and you'll have to say goodbye to your degree.
